Welcome

Program Accreditation Tool (PAT)

PAT is designed to assist NCATE teacher preparation programs who are engaging in NCATE's new standards initiatives, particularly the transformation initiatives with PK-12 school districts. The audience for PAT includes postsecondary administrators and faculty who want to align or further align their courses and programs with National Board Standards.

PAT provides a series of grids that align NCATE's Unit Standards for teacher candidates with the National Board's Five Core Propositions for accomplished teachers. The Five Core Propositions guide performance expectations for teachers in advanced programs and set the ultimate target for development of candidates in initial programs.

    Features include:
  • NCATE Unit Standards
  • National Board's Five Core Propositions
  • NCATE's initial or advanced program level
  • NCATE's "Acceptable" or "Target" rubric level

NCATE Unit Standards

The eight grids show alignment using the key explications of the National Board's Five Core Propositions and the elements of NCATE's Unit Standards. The alignment grids are presented so that users may select

  • either
    • the NCATE standards or the National Board's Five Core Propositions as their starting point;
    • the initial or advanced program level at which they wish to view alignment; and
    • the "Acceptable" or "Target" level of the NCATE standards rubric at which they wish to view alignment.
